ASR Mic Tuner

ASR Mic Tuner: tune your microphone for speech recognition on KDE Plasma — true analog gain, level, clipping, noise and voice analysis, tray

About This Project

ASR Mic Tuner provides a system tray-based interface for Linux users to calibrate microphone gain and monitor audio input levels in real-time. By bypassing the inaccurate gain reporting found in standard system volume controls, it allows users to adjust the true analog preamp gain of their hardware. The tool includes features for measuring signal-to-noise ratios, detecting clipping, and analyzing room acoustics to ensure optimal audio quality for local or cloud-based speech recognition models.

Built with Python and PyQt6, the application integrates directly with ALSA and PipeWire to manage audio chains and device-specific profiles. Users can generate custom DSP chains, including high-pass filters, gates, and noise reduction, which are automatically applied based on the active microphone and its port. This project is intended for professionals and enthusiasts who require consistent, high-fidelity audio input for dictation, transcription, or voice-controlled applications on the KDE Plasma desktop.
