IP Cam Lockdown
Forensics and a playbook for running cheap AliExpress IP cameras local-only: how they reach the vendor cloud, and how to cut it
About This Project
IP-Cam-Lockdown serves as a research repository and operational guide for securing budget-friendly AliExpress IP cameras. It provides a standardized methodology for identifying network behavior, documenting traffic patterns, and implementing firewall rules via OPNsense to prevent unauthorized vendor cloud communication. By performing forensic analysis on camera egress traffic before applying network restrictions, the project ensures that users can retain RTSP and ONVIF capabilities for local NVR integration without compromising privacy.
The project utilizes a custom Network Forensics plugin for Claude Code to automate device profiling, packet capture, and firewall configuration management. It includes detailed dossiers for various camera models, a structured security scoring rubric for evaluating local-only viability, and automated diagram generation. This resource is intended for home automation enthusiasts and security-conscious users who rely on self-hosted surveillance systems like Frigate or Home Assistant and wish to eliminate reliance on proprietary cloud relay services.
