Opencode

The open source coding agent.

About This Project

OpenCode is an open source AI coding agent designed to assist with software development tasks. It is available as a terminal user interface (TUI) and, in beta, as a desktop application for macOS, Windows, and Linux. The project is installable through a curl script and common package managers including npm, Homebrew, Scoop, Chocolatey, Nix, and mise.

The project includes two built-in agents that can be switched with the Tab key: a build agent with full access for development work, and a read-only plan agent for analysis and code exploration that denies file edits by default and requests permission before running bash commands. A general subagent handles complex searches and multistep tasks. The architecture is client/server based, which allows the agent to run on one machine while being controlled remotely from another client, and it provides out-of-the-box Language Server Protocol (LSP) support.

OpenCode is not tied to a single model provider and can be used with Claude, OpenAI, Google, or local models. It may be of interest to developers who want a provider-agnostic, fully open source alternative to proprietary coding assistants, and to those who prefer working within the terminal. Contributions are managed through a contributing guide in the repository.
