Ubuntu Admin

Agent skills for administering Ubuntu machines, desktop or server, local or over SSH: health, services, logs, packages, storage, networking, hardware, Docker, KDE.

About This Project

Ubuntu-Admin is an agent skills toolkit for the routine administration of Ubuntu machines, whether desktop or server, on the local machine or over SSH. Published as the plugin ubuntu-admin, it contains 46 skills grouped by area: system health and diagnosis, APT and snap/flatpak packages, systemd services, Docker, storage and backups, networking, hardware, desktop configuration and shell tooling. Each skill is written to run either directly or through ssh, with desktop and server differences noted inline rather than duplicated into separate documents. Skills that alter the system list the steps requiring confirmation in a Confirm before section, and they return a short report instead of raw command output.

The project relies on standard Ubuntu tooling, including apt with deb822 sources and signed-by keyrings, systemd, netplan, NetworkManager, ubuntu-drivers, Ubuntu Pro and needrestart. Three read-only shell helpers support the skills: one produces a Markdown health snapshot, one emits performance facts as JSON, and one describes the host's release, desktop environment, virtualization and available tools. The codebase is written primarily in Shell and is released under the MIT license.

The toolkit suits system administrators and power users who look after a small number of Ubuntu hosts, and developers who want an assistant to perform repeatable maintenance tasks with explicit confirmation points. It is tested against Ubuntu 22.04, 24.04 and 26.04 according to its README badges.
